Movements for Class Autonomy (KTA) – About us

We met for the first time in December 2019 after some comrades took initiative to create a social-political «procedure»that will place struggles primarily related to its members at the centre of interest and engage actively with them. This procedure should contribute in reconstitution of struggle-communes inside workspaces, universities and neighbourhoods in which members are spending time. It should dare intervene in crucial events of struggle and reinforce them towards strengthening the social-antagonism movement. Its interventions should respect class autonomy and its actions should not be likea “flash in a pan”.

Today there is a strong feeling of abandonment inside the movement as well as inside the class itself. Feelings like indifference, cynicism and alienation have become common ground amongst people who try to find ways to “get by” while others have turned into alternative lifestyles (cooperative shops and small businesses). Many people who participate in political procedures barely commit to them whilst others who still recognize the importance of struggles remain attached to ideologies and “heroic pasts” that prevent them from raising new issues and advancingthe collective interests of the class. Still, besides the seemingly dominance of ideological-political identities, there exist those who have absorbed the experience of the past struggles and are willing to participate into new ones.

Movements for Class Autonomy (KTA) are composed mainly by things that theydon’t want to be. They do not want to be another collective with strictly ideological-political views, perceivable as experts from society, if they are noticed at all. They do not want to exhaust themselves into fights that are periodically raised due to state and capitalist’s movements against us (eg: the cycle of repression-reaction, anti-Golden-Dawn-ism and militarization of antagonism movement). They do not want to mediate social struggles andform them in a way that fits their “institutional” compromises, securing in that way their own existence like the left parties and bureaucratic unions traditionally do.

KTA aims to be an interface between struggles that rise from place to place as products of smaller or larger negations that oppose capitalistic exploitation. They want to influence and be influenced by the subjective experiences of struggles that are raised inside the whole class spectrum, contributing and taking part in them with respect to their autonomy. This plan should first start from our members, through communicating daily experiences and problems that each one of us faces in workspaces and places of “reproduction” in general.

Comrades from a broad spectrum of social antagonism have responded to this call. Comrades that have previously met each other in the streets, in the neighbourhoods, in universities and workspaces, without necessarily having common political backgrounds, other than struggle against “waged slavery” and daily oppression, the recognition that social antagonism is an essential element in changing the course of history.

We think that in current circumstances we deserve the formation of a political procedure that will act as described above. We don’t want to be strictly theoretical and suffice in analyses detached from the movement, neither be plain activists that reinforce delegation and passiveness for the rest of the class, but rather involve as many people as possible. We want a procedure that is capable of interpreting the experiences of the former cycle of struggles in order to gain the necessary analytical tools that will help us interpret current reality in its complexity. A procedure that is capable of evaluating past methodologies and inventing new ones, being in a dialectical relationship with the constantly changing antagonism between classes.
